Algerian President Gives Priority to Startups in National Economic Development

The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in an address to the African Startup Conference on Tuesday, in Algiers, affirmed his strong political will to develop innovation fields and boost startups.

President Tebboune, in the address read on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, said that startups represent a major challenge in the national priorities outlined in his ambitious program aimed at accelerating the pace of economic development, by mobilizing all necessary resources to organize this promising sector and accompany project leaders in different stages.

The president of the Republic recalled the measures and initiatives taken in this regard, particularly the promotion of training in several specialties relating to the startups activity.

This includes the creation of specialized schools as well as the establishment of communication bridges between training and research centers on one hand, and the entrepreneurial world on the other.

President Tebboune further stressed the plans implemented to accompany and incubate innovative projects, including the creation of technology poles and the launch of the platform dedicated to research, development, and open innovation, as well as providing spaces for hosting startups, particularly within universities, in addition to the creation of special financing mechanisms and the guarantee of several facilities to encourage this type of initiative.

In this regard, the President of the Republic hailed the results achieved in the last few years by the knowledge economy and startups in Algeria, particularly through the creation of a national ecosystem encouraging initiative and innovation, leading to qualitative achievements in the creation of startups and allowing Algeria to be a continental leader.

This qualitative dynamic is set to gain pace in the upcoming period due to the deep economic reforms undertaken by President Tebboune to improve the investment and business climate.
