Algeria President Calls for Promotion of Creativity, Innovation to Back Africa Development


The president of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in an opening address at the African Startup Conference in Algiers on Tuesday, called for the promotion of creativity and innovation in Africa, to increase productivity and economic growth, which would enhance the independence of political and economic decisions.

President Tebboune, in the address read on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, stressed the need to emphasize the role of startups in Africa and their ability to meet the challenge of development, in a competitive economic atmosphere allowing them to open the way for initiatives and the strengthening of continental cooperation in terms the economy of knowledge and the improvement of the business climate and innovation.

In this respect, the president of the Republic stressed the significant challenge to meet, namely the employment challenge, given the high rate of unemployment in Africa, yet the continent is home to the largest number of young people in the world, he said.

President Tebboune called for the promotion of entrepreneurship based on innovation, as one of the most important mechanisms to face the job issue, hence the need for African governments to give a paramount importance to the startups that have shown their capacity to raise several economies in Europe and Asia to higher levels of economic performance, in addition to the creation of wealth and bases for sustainable development.
