Gas Investment Plans Reviewed for Iraq’s Nahr Bin Umar Field

Plans to develop associated gas investment at the Nahr Bin Umar oil field in Basra province were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Dr. Izzat Sabir Ismail, Deputy Minister of Oil for Gas Affairs. According to the Ministry of Oil, the meeting was attended by representatives of South Gas Company, the Planning and Follow-Up Directorate, and the field's operating company, Halfaya Gas Company (HGC).

The meeting examined implementation phases of the associated gas investment project and development plans to raise gas processing capacity to 300 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), to be achieved in two phases of 150 mmscfd each.

The gas investment and processing contract at Nahr Bin Umar was signed in January 2024 between South Gas Company (SGC) and Halfaya Gas Company, with an initial capacity of 150 mmscfd and an option to add a further 150 mmscfd in a second phase.
