Govt. Fully Prepared for Winter: Iran's President

President Masoud Pezeshkian said the government is fully prepared to manage the coming winter and emphasized that if each individual, household or organization cuts energy use by just 10%, the country could save between 800,000 and 900,000 barrels of oil per day.

According to the president’s office, Pezeshkian made the remarks Saturday at the annual Iran Capital Market Conference. He said imbalances in water, electricity and gas supplies are real, and the government is working to ensure that industry receives the energy it needs to continue operating. He added that public outreach and discussion are being used to help guide and correct consumption patterns.

Pezeshkian said proper energy consumption is essential and that strategies for improving energy efficiency need to be reviewed. “For example, if every person, family or institution reduces energy use by just 10%, we can save between 800,000 and 900,000 barrels of oil daily,” he said. While significant steps have been taken, he added, more effort is still required. Such savings, he said, would help improve living conditions and create meaningful progress toward development.

Inflation and High Prices Persist

The president urged the public to use energy efficiently and noted that electricity and energy generation from solar panels and other renewable sources has increased 200-fold compared with previous years. He said this figure is expected to reach 700 times by the end of the year.

Highlighting the importance of environmental protection and responsible energy use, Pezeshkian said the government expects to see the lowest rate of power outages this year and is fully prepared for winter. While the country previously faced fuel shortages, he said fuel reserves are now at acceptable levels and no supply-related threats are expected in the coming season.

Pezeshkian noted that Iran produces 180 billion barrels of oil and gas annually, yet inflation and high prices persist. He said the government holds monthly meetings with producers, investors, traders and economic officials to identify solutions to improve current conditions and address ongoing challenges. - Shana
