Oil Ministry, Police Ink MoU to Combat Smuggling of Iran's Fuel

The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, representing the Oil Ministry, and Iran’s Police signed an agreement aimed at strengthening coordination, creating smart monitoring mechanisms and expanding organized cooperation to protect national resources and curb fuel smuggling.

The memorandum of understanding was signed Tuesday to enhance institutional cooperation in identifying fuel-related violations, improve security, and streamline the supply and distribution chain for subsidized petroleum products. It also seeks to use legal and institutional tools to improve transparency, oversight and consumption control across economic sectors and consumer networks. The signatories were Mohammad Sadegh Azimifar, CEO of the NIORDC, and Brig. Gen. Hossein Rahimi, head of economic security police.

The agreement focuses on leveraging the combined capacities of the Oil Ministry and Police to prevent and confront fuel smuggling more effectively. By maximizing the use of available data and capabilities, officials aim to reduce smuggling and safeguard the nation’s energy resources. - Shana
