Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met, on 20 October 2025, with Gelsomina Vigliotti, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), at the Bank's headquarters in Luxembourg. The discussions focused on strengthening economic cooperation between Iraq and the EIB and expanding partnership in the fields of development and investment.The meeting addressed global economic developments and their regional impact, with particular attention to Iraq's economic situation and the government's priorities to revitalise the financial and economic sectors, empower the private sector, and reduce reliance on the public sector.Minister Hussein reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to enhancing cooperation with international financial institutions, especially the European Investment Bank, to support vital projects, develop infrastructure, and stimulate investment. He stressed the importance of finalising the requirements for signing the framework agreement between the two sides to implement joint cooperation.For her part, Ms Vigliotti expressed the EIB's readiness to provide support, technical advice, and financing for projects contributing to sustainable development and economic stability in Iraq following the signing of the framework agreement.
