Wintershall Dea Inks Decarbonization LOI with Egypt’s EGAS

A letter of intent (LOI) for cooperation between Germany’s Wintershall DEA and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) was signed in Cairo which will focus on the reduction of carbon emission in the onshore Disouq concession.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said in a statement that through the agreement, the parties can work on a framework to secure the necessary investments and set a program into action. The ministry is keen to improve production activities, and to reduce and control carbon emissions from flared gas.

The LOI was signed by Magdy Galal, EGAS’ Chairman, and Sameh Sabry, Managing Director of Wintershall Dea Egypt in the presences of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla; Frank Hartmann, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cairo; and Mario Mehren, Wintershall Dea’s CEO.
