Iran exported about US$1.3 billion worth of mining and mineral products in the Iranian month of Khordad in the current Iranian calendar year (21 May - 21 June).Statistics of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) showed that export value of mining and mineral products of the country reached US$1.290 billion in the mentioned period, registering an all-time high in history of Iran’s mining and mineral industry.The IRICA data indicates that during the said period, steel accounted for 65.9%, copper for 11.6%, zinc for 3.2%, sponge iron for 3%, aluminum for 2.9%, cement for 2%, iron pellets for 1.4% and other products of mining and mineral industries for 10% share in the exports of mining industries products.Another statistics indicated that Iran’s export of mining and mineral products registered a considerable 465% growth since the outbreak of coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic.It should be noted that Iran imported US$276 million worth of mining and mineral products in the Iranian month of Khordad, showing a relative fixed growth trend as compared to the previous months.According to the official statistics, more than 4,393,000 tons of various products in mining and mineral sector, valued at US$667,581,347, were exported in the first month of the current Iranian calendar year (21 March - 21 April).The Iranian mining industry has registered a US$4.2-billion trade balance in the previous Iranian year (ending on March 20), according to the Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry data. Based on the figures, some 55.1 million tons of minerals and mining industry products worth US$7.7 billion were exported in the previous year, while the imports of such products stood at only US$3.41 billion.Iran imported 4.15 million tons of mining and mineral products in the year under review, registering 6% and 13% year-on-year rise in terms of value and weight, respectively. The exports of such commodities in the previous Iranian year, however, fell 11% in terms of value and 21% in terms of weight, compared to the preceding year. Steel had the biggest share in Iran’s export basket of mining products (53.7%) with US$4.1 billion worth of exports, followed by copper, cement, and zinc chain products. - Mehr, Iran Daily
