Iran Self-Sufficient in Hexane, Pentane Production

The CEO of Takht-e Jamshid Pars Assaluyeh Petrochemical Plant said by commissioning the Elixir Halal Assaluyeh Petrochemical Plant, Iran has become self-sufficient in production of hexane and pentane. Addressing a virtual ceremony to launch the plant, Mohammad Reza Akhavan said on Thursday, May 20 that the plant has made Iran needless of importing the two items.

The project is built to produce 40,000 tons of hexane and 10,000 tons pentane annually, he said. The official further stated that the unit is designed to eliminate the missing link in the petrochemical industry for polyethylene and polystyrene solvents. Before this Iran needed to import the items from other countries. He further said that the plant was built by the private sector with US$48 million on investment. - Shana
