President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune who chaired the Council of Ministers meeting on Sunday, said that a simple and efficient approach to defining the conditions for the exercise of the import of new vehicles by dealers into Algeria is necessary. The Head of the State also called for combatting fraud. President Tebboune listened to a report by the Minister of Industry on the draft decree amending the executive decree setting the conditions and modalities for the exercise of the activity of new car dealers, the Presidency of the Republic said in a release."The environmental safety standards and the requirements for the supply of the domestic fuel market must be taken into consideration, with a view to rationalizing the import of new vehicles, President Tebboune added. He also insisted that the engine size of the vehicles imported by dealers must not exceed 1.6 litres.Tebboune also ordered that 15% of the total number of imported vehicles be electric, provided that the imports of the diesel-engine car are kept to a minimum. With regard to the draft amendment to the executive decree on the terms and conditions for authorizing customs clearance for production chains and renovated equipment used in the production of goods and services, the Minister of Industry said that debate about this draft bill must be deepened with a view to submitting it soon, said the press release from the Presidency of the Republic.
