An Iranian high ranking delegation is going to meet with Azeri officials on gas trade this coming September, announced Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Owji here on Monday (30 August 2010), adding that NIGC has started exchanging letters with Azeri officials on importing 5 Mcm of gas per day.
"We welcome gas imports if Azerbaijan is interested in increasing the export volume," he said. "Our policy is based on buying gas from suppliers and selling it to those who are in need of it, said Owji, noting it is only in case of Azerbaijan that Iran just transits gas to Nakhchivan region.
NIGC Planning Manager Asghar Soheilipour had previously said that the upgrading operation of gas pipeline and compressor in Azerbaijan has completed, which has made it possible for the country to increase its gas exports to Iran and swap up to 2.5 Mcm/d in the first phase, and then to 5 Mcm/d in the second phase. - Shana
