Sharjah to Build New Desalination Unit


A new water desalination and distribution unit in Kalba has been commissioned by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) to produce 3 MGPD on Reverse Osmosis system. The construction phase of the unit, which started in November 2007, cost US$8 million while the turbines cost US$10.6 million. "After the unit going on stream, pumping of water will increase from the Kalba station to 24 hours from 17 hours. The new unit will secure water to the city up to 2020," Eng Muza Al Za'abi, head of operations at Kalba station, said. - AME Info
