Sharjah to Build New Desalination Unit

A new water desalination and distribution unit in Kalba has been commissioned by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) to produce 3 MGPD on Reverse Osmosis system. The construction phase of the unit, which started in November 2007, cost US$8 million while the turbines cost US$10.6 million. "After the unit going on stream, pumping of water will increase from the Kalba station to 24 hours from 17 hours.
