In the first half of this year, Libyan Iron and Steel Co. (LISCO) increased its finished steel output by 12 percent to 616,000 metric tons, as compared to the corresponding period of 2009, Arab steel has reported. In the given period, the year-on-year increase in flat steel production, which was registered at 96%, offset the decrease in long steel production.Meanwhile, in the first six months of this year, LISCO ramped up its direct reduced iron (DRI) production by 79% year on year to 753,000 metric tons. In the first half of this year, finished steel sales of LISCO amounted to 600,000 metric tons, with long steel sales accounting for 49% of total sales, while flat steel sales constituted the remaining 51%. In the January-June period, LISCO significantly increased its flat steel sales both in the local and international markets.- TripoliPost
