Qatar Electricity & Water Company’s new desalination plant-Ras Abu Fontas A1 will begin operation soon, QEWC general manager Fahad al-Mohannadi has said. Located adjacent to the Ras Abu Fontas A station, RAF A1 station will have a capacity to desalinate 45 million imperial gallons daily (MIGD). Data provided by QEWC indicate that its power generation capacity would reach 5461MW and water desalination 248mn imperial gallons daily with the completion of plants now under construction.
Addressing QEWC’s H1 performance analysis meeting, al-Mohannadi said the 2010 financial results are expected to be better than those of 2009. QEWC posted a net profit of US$129 million in the six months that ended in June compared with US$114 million in the same period in 2009.
Al-Mohannadi said QEWC saw a 16% increase in sales, which accounted for QR1.4bn in the first half.“Our achievements reflect our commitment to meeting targeted supplies to Kahramaa and our obligations to the society at large,” al-Mohannadi said. At the meeting, QEWC also provided an overview of ongoing projects including Mesaieed Power Company and Ras Girtas power Company. The company commenced operations by owning and managing Ras Abu Fontas Station-B, which has an hourly design output capacity of 60MW of electricity and around 33 MIGD of water. The electricity and water produced at the station is sold to Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation).- Gulf Times
