UAE's DEWA Inks Water, Power Projects Deals


Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) signed six new contracts worth US$852 million for projects in electricity and water sectors. These agreements, signed at the Water Technology, Energy and Environment Exhibition (Wetex), are aimed at boosting the infrastructure of the Dubai utility's facilities and raising the efficiency of its networks to cater to the growing demand, said DEWA chief.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO, signed the contracts on behalf of Dewa and its partners including contractors and senior officials in the contracting companies at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the expo. The first contract worth US$64 million was awarded to AAB Industries Dubai for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of three 132/11 KV substations in the emirate.

Areva T&D SA Dubai bagged the second order worth US$280 million for supply, installation, test and commissioning of three 132/11 KV substations in various areas in Dubai including Dubai Investment Park, Jebel Ali Industries Area, Mutina and Kifaf.

The third contract worth US$70 million went to Ducab -Dubai for supply of 11 KV XLPE power cables running 800 km.

Ghantoot Gulf Contracting won the fourth contract worth US$223 million for Glass Reinforced Epoxy Water Transmission Pipelines and associated works at various locations in Dubai running around 167 kms, Al Tayer.

The fifth contract was clinched by Saudi Modern Company (Riyadh cables) Dubai for supply, installation, test and commissioning of 132 KV cables to 132/11 KV Substations for a value of  US$81 million.

Siemens snapped a US$81 million order for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of Mamzer Beach 400/132 KV Substations, the utility chief said.- Trade Arabia
