Oman-Belarus Focus on Trade Ties

The Sultanate and Belarus have expressed keenness to develop economic relations. The two sides stressed the need to benefit from the available legal framework to expand trade exchange.

Emphasis was also laid on the role that the private sectors in both countries could play in boosting mutual investment.

The discussion took place during a meeting held by Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, Minister of National Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council, and Boris Batura, Chairman of the Council of the National Assembly of Belarus, and his delegation. Macki affirmed Oman's keenness to develop its economic and investment relations with Belarus in different fields. He said that projects being undertaken by Omani investors in Belarus will open wider horizons for investment and enhance opportunities for the private and public sectors. Macki pointed out that the volume of trade is still humble and that the private and public sectors should benefit from the existing legal frameworks, including accords on the avoidance of double taxation and protection of mutual investments.

Batura expressed his government's desire to establish joint investment and trade co-operation. He pointed out that the President of Belarus is keen on the presence of Omani investment in major economic and investment projects to be set up by the Belarusian government.

He explained that his country has a number of investment ventures in agriculture, machinery and petrochemicals industries, in addition to co-operation in technical and technological education areas. - Oman Observer, Zawya
