Minister Unveils Iran's E-Commerce Vision

Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Reza Taghipour, has announced the ministry's plan to expand e-commerce. Attending the fourth national conference on Information technology, Taghipour said that by the end of The Fifth Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015), e-commerce would have a 20% share in domestic trade and 30% in Iran foreign trade.

Taghipour added that the overall e-commerce in the world has been US$8,104 billion. Iran is still behind the international standards from e-commerce but experts are trying to lessen the gap. Taghipour emphasized the reduction of bureaucracy as the key importance of e-commerce. Secure broadband Internet access was what Taghipour pointed out as the basic need for e-commerce which has been planned for in the fifth development plan. - Iran News
