US independent Hess Corporation has flowed good volumes of gas during tests of the A1-54/01 discovery well in Block 54 in Libya's offshore play. Well A1-54/01 was originally drilled in the Arous Al-Bahar prospect last year and hit hydrocarbons in several intervals with a combined gross section of about 500 feet. Hess recently re-entered and perforated the well over a 300 foot carbonate interval to carry out a drill stem test. The well flowed at a rate of 27Mscf/d of gas and 533 barrels of condensate per day on a 52/64 inch choke. Well A1-54/01 was drilled in 2807 feet of water in Block 54, in the Sirte Basin. Hess holds 100% of Block 54, which it operates under an exploration and production sharing agreement with Libya’s National Oil Corporation. The re-entry work was carried out by the drillship Stena Forth. The drillship will now complete the drilling of an appraisal well, A2-54/01, which lies to the north-west of the Aroud Al-Bahar discovery well. - Upstream
