Green Future Limited contracted by Rwandatel and Uganda telecom, both owned partly by Libyan African Investment Portfolio (LAP), to bring fibre optic cable to both Uganda and Rwanda by January 2010.

The company will connect a fibre optic loop from Kampala, Uganda to Kigali, Rwanda. The company said in a statement issued that the fibre optic cable, which is expected to provide Internet broadband to Rwanda will reach the Katuna border post of Rwanda by next month. The company that recently got the contract to lay fibre cables from Uganda to Rwanda is currently providing Internet capacity of about 30 Mega bytes/sec through an infrastructure called microwave technology.

According to the statement, the cables will take one more month to reach Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. The firm recently secured US$300 million fund offered by the Chinese government through the LAP Green Network, a Libyan telecom firm.- TripoliPost
