Iran's non-oil exports to the American continent increased by three-fold in the past four years. Announcing this, deputy head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Babak Afghahi, said that Iran's non-oil exports to the continent stood at US$179 million in 2005 while the figure for 2008 was more than US$577 million. The figures for 2006 and 2007 were US$267 million and US$238 million respectively, he noted, adding that the growth in Iran's exports to the American continent continues. Afghahi said that Ecuador, Brazil and Venezuela were the main targets for Iran's non-oil exports. The removal of obstacles to expansion of ties was the main reason for the rise in Iran's export to the continent, he said. Referring to the ninth government's resolve to expand ties with Latin American states, the official said that signing a large number of agreements in the past four years paved the way for promoting industrial cooperation and investment. - IRNA
