Iran’s Vice Presidency for Science and Technology announced its support for the participation of the country’s new technology-based firms (NTBFs) in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) once Beijing overcomes the coronavirus pandemic. China is planning to hold the third edition of the CIIE after containing the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, in the country, farsnewsagency reported. A total of 3,000 companies from 150 countries convened in the second edition of the event. Fifteen Iranian firms participated in this edition of the exhibition.CIIE is an annual trade fair held in autumn in Shanghai. It is the first import-themed national-level expo in the world. It features exhibitions of a big number of countries and businesses. The first and second editions were held in 2018 and 2019 by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and Shanghai Municipality. The exhibition is a good opportunity for Iranian companies to showcase their products and services and hold meetings with foreign firms for further cooperation. This year, support from the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology as well as the Iran National Innovation Fund for Iranian NTBFs has further encouraged them to take part in the event.In relevant remarks in November 2019, the Deputy Industry, Mine & Trade Minister, Reza Rahmani, said the country’s car manufacturers and spare part producers welcome Chinese carmakers seeking to invest in Iran. “Iranian car manufacturers and auto spare part makers welcome joint investment and cooperation with their Chinese counterparts,” Rahmani said in the port city of Shanghai in China on November 10. He added that Iran has a developing car industry, predicting that the country’s car market will get bigger in the coming years.Rahmani also said Iran’s auto industry cooperated with some European companies in the past, adding it needs to undergo further development to produce cars of higher quality. He noted that Chinese automakers are increasing the quality of their products in comparison with the past, expressing Iran’s readiness to develop cooperation with Chinese manufactures and investors in order to produce high quality cars at reasonable prices. Rahmani added Iranian companies that produce auto spare parts can increase their capabilities through joint investments with their Chinese counterparts in order to have a more significant presence in the markets of the region.
