Omanexpo has delayed one of the most important oil and gas events in the Middle East by six months because of travel fears. The Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) has been postponed due to travel difficulties amid the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. The conference, one of the most important in the Middle East region and Oman’s biggest oil and gas event, will now be held from 14-16 September 2020 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, six months after the originally planned 9-11 March dates.Ashley Roberts, portfolio director and acting general manager of Omanexpo, said: “While we realize that the change in dates may amount to some inconvenience for companies, it is paramount to put the health of those due to visit OPES 2020, and the wider population of Oman, at the center of this decision.“We believe that the postponement allows for the event to be fully inclusive and it is likely that it will be even better for the communities that they serve.”The conference, which is organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers, will focus on 'shaping the future of the energy industry' and include 400 global oil and gas companies from more than 20 countries, including Saudi Aramco, Shell, BP, Petrofac, Petrogas, Total and Gulf Energy. The postponement is supported by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Oil and Gas, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
